If you would like spring to arrive with masses of yellow color, plant forsythia bushes. the tiny flowers individually aren't too impressive, but they spring forth in the thousands to cheer your winter-weary heart.
Forsythia are so, so, so easy to grow. In fact, they can be invasive, so keep that in mind, but it's very easy to keep them under control if pruned. They easily root if you want to propagate more. Just cut and stick in some water! You'll have roots before you know it.
If you are on a budget, check with friends and neighbors who have this bush to see if you might have some cuttings or even small rooted bushes. They root in on their own if not kept pruned, so you may find someone happy to share a few with you.
