Note To Michele: Houseplant Identification

Michele,

I saw this pathos in a garden center the other day. Since we'd been discussing houseplants I snapped a picture to show you. I have a large hanging pathos plant. I will share some cutting from it with you. Mine is in a hanging basket but I thought this was an interesting to way to display a pathos. I may try training some young cuttings to do this. It would look nice on a deck in the summer time.
Pathos is so easy to grow and tend. It doesn't need much light, grows quickly and is easy to propagate. Just a word of caution with this plant- the ASPCA says it is toxic to cats and dogs.
I've been thinking a lot about the tropical plants you bought at Trader Joe's. Both are really lovely and I hope we can identify them for you. I did a little searching online and think the one with the reddish stems may be a philodendron Prince of Orange. What do you think?
This other plant looks like some type of dracaena plant. I love the color combination of the white stripe against the green. Maybe some of our readers know what these plants are. Dear Readers, please let us know in the comments if we are correct or not. Both plants were only labeled "Tropical Plant" by Trader Joe's.

I can't wait to hear all about your gardens as spring comes to Portland, Oregon. We have snow cover here in Maine, so it will be some time before I'm talking about spring. In the meantime, it's fun to tend the houseplants.
