Michele's Garden Day Book-July 14th


Outside my window..... it is rush hour outside
I am planning.....to lay more compost around my beds
I am harvesting....chard & lettuce
One of my favorite garden things....enjoying watching my rhubarb grow this year
Creatures I saw in my garden this week were.....a dragonfly and our garden cat
Projects for the rest of the week....planting pumpkins in the community garden area
What I would do differently next year....grow less lettuce

Michele's Garden Day Book-July 8th


Outside my window..... I can see the mint in my container taking over the whole pot
I am planning.....to sow more carrots and radish
I am harvesting....more lettuce and last of peas
One of my favorite garden things.... watering the beds. For some reason I really like to do that
Creatures I saw in my garden this week were.....a hummingbird. They have green ones here
Projects for the rest of the week....they delivered compost for us at the community garden. I want to add some to existing beds and make some new beds for my squash and melons
What I would do differently next year....sharpen my gardening tools

Michele's Garden Day Book-July 1


Outside my window..... I can see the sun beginning to set on a fantastic day
I am planning.....work on drying herbs for teas
I am harvesting....lettuce, peas, chives, radish and berries
One of my favorite garden things.... this week I had a great time harvesting peas
Creatures I saw in my garden this week were.....our garden cat. I call him magic
Projects for the rest of the week....work on condensing the compost heap
What I would do differently next year....plant more herbs

Michele's Gardening Day Book-June 24th

Outside my window..... I can see the branches of a birch tree dancing in the wind.
I am planning.....to pull weeds in the shared area of our community garden.
I am harvesting.....Lettuce & Peas.
I am reading...the new "Terrarium Craft Book" by Amy Bryant Aiello & Kate Bryant. Love it!
One of my favorite garden things.... Making a big pile of weeds
Creatures I saw in my garden this week were.....I saw small spiders crawling around on the ground of my garden. Don't suppose they eat slugs do they?
Projects for the rest of the week....plant the Cherokee Tomato that is sitting on my porch.
What I would do differently next year.... Wait it out in regard to sowing seeds too early.

Outside my window..... I can see the Hookah Bar next door through the tree branches from my third floor flat in an old Victorian house
I am planning..... to organise summer work parties at my community garden
I am harvesting.....Radish and Oregano
I am reading...to be honest with my new volunteer position as garden manager and increased work at my business I have not been reading as much as I usually do
One of my favorite garden things.....Flowers of all types. Right now my stock is flowering
Creatures I saw in my garden this week were.....Slugs of many colors
To-dos for the rest of the week....Thin the Chard and Rhubarb
What I would do differently next year.... Cover crop in the fall and winter to avoid so much Spring weeding

Outside my window..... the pavements are wet from the on and off daily rain showers
I am planning..... to add two window boxes to my apartment porch
I am harvesting.....Lettuce
I am reading...tons of gardening blogs. See our blogs of interest list
One of my favorite garden things.....Poppies of all type. Have you seen the black type or are they actually a dark purple?
Creatures I saw in my garden this week were.....A white Moth
To-dos for the rest of the week....Harden off my indoor starts
What I would do differently next year.... Add more herbs to the garden

I am planning..... to thin seedlings at my community garden this weekend and do some weeding and re-mulching of pathways
I am harvesting.....Swiss Chard is the only plant I can harvest right now
I am reading.....Urban Farming in the City
One of my favorite garden things.....is planning the garden
Creatures I saw in my garden this week were.....lots of ladybugs
To-dos for the rest of the week.....I have three new glazed pots to plant at my house
What I would do differently next year....make sure every label I use is waterproof
