My Phlox is Blooming

I always look forward to this plant blooming near the end of each summer. This was one of the first plants I put in the ground at this house decades ago. It was a clump from my mother's garden. Every summer it perfumes the air with the most lovely smell. I have some growing under my living room window, so I like to open the windows at night and let the perfume in. This is a cultivated phlox. I also have the wild phlox that has volunteered and blooms in the spring, but this one is very special to me.

I also noticed this phlox, which is a different shade of pink than most of my phlox. This is the frist year I have noticed this pink with white color. I like it!

Mom and Dad's Flower Garden at Dusk

 A few years ago, I showed you my Mom and Dad's deck adorned with summer flowers. Last night at dusk, I snapped photos of this summer's flowers for you to see.

This is their new three tiered hanging basket. They bought a two tiered basket, then added the larger bottom basket which was sold individually. They planted it with geraniums, begonias and ivy. It hangs on their front porch above a large pot of begonias.

These marigolds are a pretty pale yellow.

Even the mailbox is a pretty garden!

Mom and Dad have several of these pretty iron window boxes on their deck. This year they are planted with sweet alyssum, bright yellow marigolds, and red geraniums. Before the summer is out, I will give you a day time tour to show you more of their pretty containers filled with flowers.

Flowers on the 4th

It's a tradition in our family to head down to Ogunquit, Maine to watch their great fireworks display. Before the sun set, we walked around Perkins Cove, taking in the sights and visiting the shops. I took some flowery photographs for you to share the lovely gardens and window boxes around the cove, many decorated with patriotic flags for the occasion. Between the festive mood, the pretty little gardens, quaint shops, and the fireworks, we had a memorable 4th of July.

Mom's Flowers

My mom's flowers look so pretty I thought I'd share them with you. Her deck is adorned with an abundance of containers filled with impatiens, begonias, petunias, geraniums and other annuals. I've also included a photo of her hydrangeas planted along the driveway. Aren't they beautiful?

June Blooms

This time of year I have many perennials blooming in my borders. The iris, bachelor buttons and phlox were all gifts from my mom's established gardens. Soon, the peonies will open, too. I'll be sure to post photos of those when they burst into bloom.  

These iris grow everywhere in our area. I've seen masses of them in the ditches along the roads.

I'm so happy with this clump of bachelor buttoms. I took a small piece from my mother's garden just a year ago which has tripled in size.

Above: These were given to me this spring with a huge lot of strawberries and perennials. I'm not sure what it is, though I've seen it growing in other gardens. Can anyone help me out? Please post in the comments if know the name of this plant.

Above: Pinky-white phlox. Below: Purple phlox. These colors are also growing natural along the roads. These are doing well in the shady areas of my yard. I also had a beautiful phlox that was white with red center. It was from my grandmother's garden but sadly it seems to have died out.

Below: Lady's Mantle. I love this plant so much I wish it would spread, but in all the years I've had it, it stays about the same size.
