My Amazing Egyptian Walking Onions

Years ago a neighbor gave me a clump of Egyptian Walking Onions. These plants have provided not only food, but entertainment as well. Early in the spring the plants look like any other onion. But around the beginning of June, the tops form a white casing.

These remind me of an egg, with a little onion gestating inside. Eventually, the small onion hatches out...
creating all sorts of interesting shapes.

This one reminds me a bit of Princess Beatrice's royal wedding hat...

Soon, small bulbs will form with green onion tops, sitting right on top of the original onion. Once large enough, it will become top heavy and fall over. Then the little onions seed into the ground where they fall. And the process begins again. Left unchecked, these onions will 'walk' across the garden and where ever gravity allows them to fall. I'll post more photos as they progress through the growth cycle.
